About the Artist

Meg Harper

Nature inspires me. Within it I see the truest essence of beauty, power and goodness. It has the power to positively influence people's moods in ways nothing else can. To me it's the perfect subject for art.

Growing up surrounded by the forest and mountains of the Adirondacks solidly rooted my reverence for nature. The Adirondack Park was very accessible to me and is where I spent most of my free time. In nature is where I feel closest to God.

Photos taken on my travels are the inspiration for my paintings. Places like Utah, Colorado, Ireland, North Carolina, and Oregon are a few of my favorite spots. In nature, texture and color speak to me without a sound and I paint them through the use of vibrant palettes, combining acrylic paints with oil pastels. In addition, the glistening of morning dew stirred my curiosity. I tried using beads to represent it in a painting and found it worked. The beads have kind of taken on a life of their own now. They accentuate small areas that I really want to pop and radiate. Like most women, I have a love affair with jewels; I wanted to make each painting "feel" a bit more special by adding a third dimension. I hope to capture the delicate balance of hard and soft textures, and the exquisite range of color that I see. I want to bring a small piece of nature's magic to the canvas.

People tell me when they look at my paintings, they want to be in them. They want to explore the place and feel the energy that is captured inside. I wish you the same experience.

Meg Harper has her BA in Painting from the State University of New York at Cortland. She has been painting for over 20 years.
