So why am I painting 16 different Animal Shamans?
The idea came to me in the middle of the night, as many of my creative thoughts appear, when I am not so filled with the days activities and other things can bubble up. My intention is to help people, however I can through my art. I paint animals and I wanted to play more with the symbolism of certain animals and the power they can give us. I will be using wood, metal, and metallic paint mostly. I have done research on the best animals to convey certain emotions like; peace, love, clarity, health, abundance, courage, etc. It's been a really fun journey. I look forward to sharing them with you all at the first Carefree Fine Art and Wine Festival in January of 2025.
Below is just a little bit of information on how animal shamans have helped people.
The history of animal shamans is deeply rooted in various indigenous cultures around the world. Shamans serve as spiritual leaders and healers, often invoking the presence and power of animals in their practices. Here are some key points in the history of animal shamans:
-
Ancient Traditions: The role of shamans can be traced back thousands of years, with evidence found in prehistoric cave paintings depicting human-animal interactions. These images suggest a spiritual connection between humans and animals, often seen as guides or protectors.
-
Cultural Significance: In many indigenous cultures, animals are viewed as sacred beings with unique spiritual qualities. Shamans often engage with animal spirits to gain insight, healing powers, or guidance. This relationship is integral to the spiritual practices of many Native American, Siberian, African, and other indigenous groups.
-
Totem Animals: Many cultures believe in totem animals, which are specific animals that represent a person's identity, traits, or life path. Shamans often work with these totemic animals during rituals or healing sessions to harness their strengths and wisdom.
-
Healing Practices: Shamans often use animal medicine, which encompasses the qualities and attributes of specific animals. For example, a bear might symbolize strength and courage, while a rabbit might represent gentleness and vulnerability. Shamans use these qualities in their healing practices to address physical, emotional, or spiritual ailments.
-
Modern Shamanism: In contemporary times, there is a revival of interest in shamanic practices, including the role of animal shamans. Many people seek out shamanic healing as a way to connect with nature and explore their spirituality.
I think my gypsy roots are showing here. I am sure my ancestors who traveled Europe playing music out of their shanty trailers used some of these practices. Maybe that's why I have such a connection to animals.
Overall, the history of animal shamans is a testament to the deep connection between humans and animals, reflecting a worldview where nature and spirituality are intertwined.
